The Librarian
I am currently attending the DFW WRiter’s conference, and I was challenged to create a flash fiction of exactly 100 words. This is what I wrote:
Surrounded by her love of books, quiet whispers, and subdued voices, a blinking cursor taunts, “what’s next?” Cataloging knowledge and helping with information quests are surely worthwhile endeavors. An elderly man approaches, and she smiles, ready to answer any question. He asks, “where’s the bathroom?” She sighs. “Down the hall on the left,” but he can’t hear her library voice, so she takes his hand to lead the way. “Stranger, danger,” he yells, sending shockwaves through the silence. Later, after his daughter rescues him, the librarian must clean up the puddle he left behind
Please leave me honest feedback about what you think about this story as I am considering submitting it to contests and want to make it as good as possible.
Writers are definitely my clan. I feel very at home at this conference. I can really relate to these people and what they are trying to accomplish by putting words on the paper. Hopefully by telling the stories that need to be told, writers are, in our own small way, changing the world for the better!
Joke: I've often thought of writing my autobiography and selling it as a cure for insomnia.

Advice: Doing what you love should be your top priority, not the last thing on your “to do” list.
