July 4th Fireworks

Well, it’s a July 4th weekend, and unlike a couple of years ago during the lockdowns of the pandemic, people are out and about again.  That means July 4th celebrations are in full swing…except for in places that are having a drought.  Those places where everything is really dry are skipping the fireworks and choosing to have festivals, often with music, instead.

I, personally, love fireworks, especially when they are coordinated to music.  I’ve never set off fireworks myself or been around anyone who did.  I’ve pretty much lived in the city all my life, and it’s illegal to set off your own fireworks within city limits.  Anyway, because it’s dangerous, I leave it to the experts, who also have the technology and budget to create an impressive display.  Like magic, that means fireworks displays have an aura of mystery for me, which I think helps me enjoy them even more.

I guess I’m not alone, given the crowds that usually show up for fireworks displays.  That’s usually the drawback for me—all the people and carving out some space in a field where I don’t feel like I’m right on top of other people.  That’s why I probably remember very fondly a couple of vacations in which I could see fireworks every night from my hotel room: one to Disney World in Florida and one outside of Dollywood in Tennessee.  Because they were available every night, you’d think I’d get tired of them—sort of how you get used to beautiful scenery if you see it every day.  But, no.  Some of my other family members skipped the fireworks in favor of other activities, but I never did.

I think they’re amazing—sort of like snow on Christmas in Dallas (which has only happened once in my lifetime, and you bet I was out of my mind excited, so much so that my kids thought I had lost it that day!).

I know that the fireworks on July 4th are symbolic of the battle the colonists fought against England to win their freedom, and they are often accompanied by patriotic, inspiring music.  And I do appreciate the freedom that the US provides for its citizens, but I think we have a long way to go until we reach equality for all.  But I think it’s a goal worth striving for, so let the fireworks explode and let the flags fly.  I believe that we live in great country with the potential for everyone to reach their full potential.

Joke: July 4th may not be a picnic, but it’s always a blast.

Quote:  “We all have fireworks within us, ready to explode.  Aim high for the sky, shine bright and when you’re at the top, share the moment to inspire others.” – Arnold Henry

Advice:  Enjoy the beauty around you.  Although it’s only temporary, so is life.  Know that the beauty of your life, although brief, can inspire others.
