The Good News Is…

I know women often give men a hard time for a variety of things, but I want to take a minute and thank all the men out there for helping women out when we’re having car issues.  And I’m not talking about men who you would expect to help you like your father, brother, husband, boyfriend, uncle, or cousin.  I’m talking about men who you have never met before who stop to help you.

The first time I experienced this I was 18, and my ’73 VW Beetle died on the street and wouldn’t restart.  Not wanting to cause a traffic pile up, I decided to push my car over to a turn lane.  I’m all of 4’ 10” and at that time, I weighed about 97 pounds.  But I had heard that Beetles don’t weigh much, so I decided to give it a go. The car was, in fact, easy to push because when I lifted my head there were several guys pushing it with me.  I have no idea where they came from, but there they were helping me.  One of them even told me that he was a mechanic and was willing to look at my car.

Now I might expect this kind of attention if I was as good looking as a supermodel, but I’m just a regular looking lady.

Another time I was trying to remember if I had put something in my trunk, so I pulled over to check.  Next thing I know there’s a guy riding a bicycle asking if he can help me.  I’m not sure what he thought he could do considering that he was riding a bicycle, but I really appreciated him stopping to help.

Another time I had a flat tire, and a guy stopped to help me change it.  Yet another time I was with my family traveling down the highway when the engine seized up.  It turns out that when I had my oil changed, they didn’t put the plug in that’s supposed to keep the oil from leaking out.  This guy who came to our rescue helped us tow our car to a safe place in the nearest town so we could get some help.

So I just wanted to say “thank you” to all the wonderful men out there who have been knights in shining armor.  They show they care in such practical ways.  Women, let’s cut them some slack.  They can really be quite wonderful.

Joke:  I think my car holds grudges.  I never should have kicked the tires before I bought it.

Quote:  Noble be man, helpful and good!  For that alone sets him apart from every other creature on Earth.  —Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Advice:  Offer to help others whenever you can and gladly accept help whenever it’s offered.
