Just Remember

I keep some things

just for me

close to my heart.

Does this make me

selfish or self-preserving?

I want to be loving and giving,

but I have found that others

will take and take and take

until there is nothing left,

and you wonder

who you are.

Somebody’s daughter?

Somebody’s wife?

Somebody’s mother?

Not someone promoting anarchy.

For isn’t that what a world

with no countries would be?

Then nobody would care who

crossed which borders and

it wouldn’t be illegal to better

yourself and your family.

Ideally, everyone here is free to be

who they are, members of humanity

made from shining stars with space

to expand exponentially.

In this world, everyone is

safe, fed, secure, and happy.

People don’t own possessions, property,

or each other.  No barriers separate you

from me; ours is this planet, this universe:

its beauty, its expansiveness, its heartbreak.

When your love is gone, never to return,

wouldn’t you give everything to have it back?

What good is money then or when

the breath leaves our bodies?

With closed fists we try to hold what isn’t ours.

Time takes it—always. Even the most beautiful

lose their value until they are no longer wanted.

And we can’t remember why

our toys were so important once

we have outgrown them.  As universal

elements, we are growing, expanding

and moving onward until we return

to the great unknown we have forgotten.

We’re afraid to leave these bodies

because we don’t remember

the other world and how

it looks or sounds or tastes.

But we can feel its heartbeat,

so we cry for the unborn baby

whose rhythm is wild horses galloping,

oblivious to one day being

caught and tamed, shackled by those

who want control and for others to do

their bidding.  They tame us in the name

of protecting us from our own good.

But remember,

you can always keep

some things just for you

close to your heart

to preserve the special

essence of you.

Joke: If age is only in the mind, my mirror must be playing tricks on me.

Quote: “Exploration is really the essence of the human spirit. - Frank Borman

Advice: Keep some things just for yourself to treasure because they are the essence of who you are.
