21

A couple of days ago, my youngest child, Ben turned 21, officially an adult.  Although he still lives at home while he is finishing college, I now have officially gotten all my children to adulthood.

I think back when I was 21, and it doesn’t seem so long ago.  I really don’t feel so different than I did back then.  Perhaps I am a little wiser and have a bit less energy, but overall I still feel the same as I did back then.

I hope I have done a good job of mothering and have loved them enough.  I hope they have wonderful, happy lives.  I hope they are caring people who do the right thing and help the world become a better place to live.

It’s strange to think that I have less years ahead of me than behind to me.  But maybe it’s a good thing to see that the end is coming.  It makes me more motivated to do everything I was put on this earth to do.

When I ask Ben if he had a good birthday, he said that the celebration was good but was wondering what he had accomplished in his life.  That seemed strange to me because his life is just beginning.  But it got me to wondering how early we start looking back at what we have done with our lives to see if it is enough.  It seems so easy to disappoint ourselves.

I think the message I’d like to tell people of any age is that it’s never too late to get started.  Dream your dreams and take action toward your goals.  Along the way, help others and be of service.  That’s what gives life meaning.  Have a purpose and love as much as your can.  Cherish your friends and family and appreciate everything you have!

We may be 21 for only one year of our lives, but we can have a youthful outlook at any age!

Here are some poems on the theme of turning 21:

1. The Dawn of Twenty-One

In the glow of twenty-one, a new chapter has begun,
A path of light, where dreams take flight, under the rising sun.
With every step, a promise kept, a world that’s bright and new,
Where hopes unchain, and joys remain, in skies of endless blue.

2. Cheers to Twenty-One

Raise a glass to the stars tonight,
To the dance of youth, in the moon’s soft light.
Twenty-one, a song unsung, a journey just begun,
With laughter’s echo, and friendship’s glow, in the setting sun.

3. Flight of the Falcon

Soar high, young falcon, on wings of twenty-one,
Above the clouds, where dreams are found, and new adventures spun.
With each new height, a world alight, in splendor and in fun,
Embrace the breeze, with graceful ease, your story has just begun.

4. The Unfolding Path

At twenty-one, the road unfolds, with mysteries untold,
A canvas bright, with colors light, and stories to be told.
Embrace each day, in your own way, with courage bold and true,
For the journey’s worth, on this wide earth, is crafted just for you.

5. Starlit Wishes

On this night of twenty-one, beneath the starlit sky,
Make a wish, let dreams unfurl, like constellations high.
In the tapestry of time, your story brightly weaves,
With every dream, a guiding beam, in the tapestry it leaves.

6. The Key of Dreams

Twenty-one, the key in hand, to unlock doors of light,
Where paths converge, and passions surge, in the heart’s delight.
With every step, a melody, in life’s great symphony,
Play your part, with all your heart, in perfect harmony.

7. Ocean’s Whisper

Like the ocean’s gentle whisper, twenty-one softly calls,
With waves of hope, and strands of dreams, upon the sandy halls.
Dive deep into the tides of life, where treasures are unveiled,
In this vast sea, be wild and free, with sails of dreams unfurled.

8. The Dance of Dawn

Dance with the dawn of twenty-one, in the morning’s golden light,
With steps of joy, no fears alloy, in the day’s pure delight.
Every moment, a precious gem, in life’s rich diadem,
Shine bright and true, in all you do, like a polished gem.

9. Reflections at Twenty-One

In the mirror of twenty-one, reflections of the past,
With lessons learned, and bridges burned, and memories that last.
Ahead lies roads of endless hope, and dreams that touch the sky,
Embrace each day, in your own way, as life goes sweeping by.

Joke: You are only young once, but you can stay immature indefinitely. — Ogden Nash

Quote:  "Age is a very high price to pay for maturity." — Tom Stoppard

Advice:  Age is a number that only means something if you think it does.
